About me
I am a veterinarian who graduated from the University of Wisconsin--Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine. I completed a small animal/exotics/zoo general practice and emergency internship at VCA Valley Animal Hospital, Reid Park Zoo, and Tucson Wildlife Center in Tucson, Arizona. I also completed a zoological medicine specialty internship at Texas A&M University. I was then a zoo veterinarian at Toledo Zoo in Ohio for 2 years. I recently moved with my husband to Florida and am a veterinarian at Southeastern Guide Dogs.
I consider "home" Madison, Wisconsin, where I met my wonderful husband, Johnny. Together, we have two chinchillas (Puff and Bubbles), two kitties (Charlie and Cuddles), two bunnies (Maizie and Waddles), and two dogs (Koda and Theodore). They make our hearts and lives full. My passion is working with endangered species to optimize their health and wellbeing, as well as promote conservation and education. I also enjoy educating people on proper care of exotic pets, as lack of knowledge/poor husbandry is the #1 reason for illness in these animals. Additionally, there is very little preventative care in exotic animals, and often they aren't brought to a veterinarian until they are too far gone to save. My goal is to educate the public on proper husbandry, as well as common signs of illness, and provide an informational site where owners can get basic information on common diseases. My hope is that over time, people will understand the importance of yearly wellness exams, pet insurance, and doing their research ahead of time to know how to properly care for an exotic pet. Together, we can make animals' lives happier and healthier! This website is not affiliated with any company or funding, and is solely for the purpose of pet owner education. This information should not be used to try to diagnose or treat any disease, and is not meant to replace seeking consultation or care by a veterinarian.
